When you buy a pair of socks and you lay them in the drawer,

Why is it that they never want to be a pair no more?

You put them in the washer, then through the dryer too,

Next thing you know, one sock is gone, your favourite, green and blue...

And why is it that when a sock gets a hole right in the toe,

The other one is good as new – you can't say “out you go!”

So you stuff it back into the drawer, knowing someday very soon,

Another sock will get a hole, and you'll have a pair again, like new..

But of course these socks will never match, that's certain every time -

And you can't go out wearing one red sock and the other neon-lime...

Manufacturers make sure that patterns never are repeated,

So attempts to buy a matching pair will always be defeated..

There is a way to win this game – next time you buy socks off the rack,

Buy at least ten pairs of just one brand, and make sure all of them are black.
