my understanding is that StepNexus owns Multos.
Keycorp is 20% owner of StepNexus along with Mastercard, Hitachi and a private concern. Then there are all those companies that are partners in a development sense.
A pdf document exists stating clearly that to obtain a license to use Multos the licensee needs to pay $50,000 for the first year, and $35,000 for each year after + a small fee for under 15mill units issued.
I feel confident, though i seem to be the only one, that Paypass is going to be everywhere. Readers will be wireless and cheap as chips. As for Visa, well Keycorp, who are the technology brains behind the various implementations of Multos eg. Mexico, Slovenia Taiwan, Turkey.. they have already released cards that co-exist.
NFC is the killer in the contactless world...and its coming on pretty fast. Nokia the key here. Telstra trials very soon and should expect Keycorp involvement.
