simple maths, if you have $X (a % of your total capital) to trade a stock, and all of a sudden it's double the price (due to say a 1 for 2 consolidation), then you only get half as many shares / CFD contracts etc. for the same $X
so a 1 cent movement in the share price is now only worth half as much as before
