I lived in Canberra for several years and while it does have some good points I wouldn't live there again. The good points are: Great parks for kids Well set out Good roads Good bikeways Close to the snow for a weekend.
Bad Points Huge hard drug problem Big crime problem Employment is mostly Government and Military.
I ran smack bang into the hard drug problem several times. Once my son ran over a couple of used drug needles that were just discarded on the grass in one of the main parks. After that I checked everywhere we went and the same thing happened several times while I was there but lucky I kept checking so no injury occurred. I saw two young people die in the city centre from overdose and met many people who had similar experiences. I was living in a good area at the time. This is such a problem in Canberra that they have a number you ring and a squad of workers come around and clean them up.
