Cancer Council Finds Nearly 50% of Australian's Believe Sunscreen Causes Cancer

Cancer Council:
"A survey of 1000 Australians from 18 to over 76 years old, commissioned by Cancer Council, found that nearly half of respondents believed that sunscreen contained chemicals that were bad for you and could even cause cancer. Some manufacturers even advertise that their sunscreen products do not contain cancer-causing (carcinogens) chemicals found in other sunscreens."

Supplies Sunscreens to the market containing Octocrylene, Homosalate, Octyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane.

"There were 13 compounds that had been found to increase estrogenic effects on Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF-7) human breast cancer cell lines. They were parabens (Byford et al., 2002), oxybenzone (Coronado et al., 2008), octocrylene (Matsumoto et al., 2005), benzyl salicylate (Charles and Darbre, 2009), butylphenyl methylpropional (Charles and Darbre, 2009), triclosan (Gee et al., 2008), homosalate (Schlumpf et al., 2001) and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor (Mueller et al., 2003)."
