Emerging iron-ore company Flinders Mines has declared a maiden inferred resource at its Canegrass operations, in Western Australia, of * 107-million tons, grading 0.62% vanadium. The developer said on Wednesday that the mineral resource was a subset of the larger iron mineral resource of 216-million tons, grading 25.4% iron, with both resources contained within the same geological units. The Canegrass project is located around 60 km from Mount Magnet and close to Atlantic’s Windimurra vanadium project, which is set to start mining shortly. The project covers an area of around 700 km2 and hosts extensive magnetite mineralisation, with recent drilling and studies highlighting the high vanadium grades associated with the **bro-hosted magnetite iron mineralistaion. Flinders said that in light of the discovery of the significant iron and vanadium mineralisation at the project, the company was now investigating opportunities to maximise the return from both the mineralisations.
This work would be carried out before any additional exploration took place, given that the project tonnage was already considered to be substantial. Additional marketing work would also now be carried out over the third quarter of this year, leading to the start of discussions in the fourth quarter with third parties, to gauge the demand for potential products. Flinders said that these discussions would include possible offtake and joint venture opportunities.
