Yes some what decriminalised and mostly you get a small fine or directed to Cannabis Intervention Requirement notice to attend a mandatory one on one counselling session. It's suggested that over 30% of the population use cannabis, in days gone by the courts where clogged with people being charged with cannabis offences and hence the softer approach
Guy I know (in WA) got caught with a small amount and elected to attend a Cannabis Intervention one on one counselling session. The counsellor agreed his alcohol and tobacco consumption was of more concern.
Mostly Cannabis consumption is relatively harmless but like most things people should only use in moderation and be responsible for themselves
