unfortunately the gold price is now hostage to the Fed and its taper plans, it will stay in this trading range (1700 to 1800) until it becomes obvious that the Fed can't taper or raise rates, the same thing happened between 2016 and 2019 (trading range about 1200 to 1300), it only finally broke out when the Fed tried to taper (late 2018) and cause a sharemarket crash
