Just to clarify, we're talking about covid-19 not MSB clinical trials now underway?
It's because when older and/or immunocompromised people's immune system responds, it's far less effective, but stressed so it sends in a compensatory but ineffective flood.
It's this secondary reaction that causes more fluid build up in the lungs for instance. Gross oversimplifications, but that's the general thing. I have links for it but would take me time to find them. One in particular uses graphics that are really good. I will post it if I find it later.
So if they had cells that reacted more efficiently, they wouldn't flood in. They overreact.
Like me today.
I am over reacting to the usual insults in here because I"m a high risk person for Covid-19 which is why I've researched these reactions. I've had pneumonia last year and it wasn't fun. Nearly died from asthma response to the smoke this January. A bit fed up really with discussions about risk that focus on misleading details.
And I cannot manage to get any masks. Freaking Nada. It's ridiculous. Most of them are now in China or onsold on ebay. Masks are being prioritised by Australian manufacturers for medicos which is fair, but they are also useful in prevention for and containment of, high risk people. But like the mass buying of toilet paper, pharmacies anecdotally tell me they're are being bought out entirely by people who don't actually need them. They simply don't have a policy on it and sales staff don't care because You know, whatever....it is what it is...
So stuck at home contemplating the stupid toilet paper and mask shortage the MSB price and the interactions in there that tend towards professional conceit and disrespect to anyone not using precisely the correct terminology.
And that we can expect with a pandemic still undeclared, mind to be kind to China, we don't do that.
We have to keep them onside. The head of the WHO is from Eritrea with strong links to China in his previous role.... But with an pandemic we can expect to have up to 70% infection.
And all the indications are that we do in fact, have one. If we reach that peak or it mutates and peters out or something else happens and it escalates nobody knows. That's risk.
On top of it the Australian government reaction has been ridiculous. Not closing borders to Italy because of the Grand Prixxx. Wtf? Delayed closing borders to Korea. People supposedly in 14 days self-quarantine swanning about. There were 5 million trips out of Wuhan many to Australia before the Chinese even reacted and then their reaction has been praised by the WHO..! They've been welding people into their housing blocks. Welding! I've seen this footage and it's not pleasant. Not enough test kits so fewer positives. Not recording all causes, just record the underlying health issue no mention of Covid-19. Not enough deaths formally recorded anyway. Very little in mainstream Australian media that's doubting the official Chinese line. Epidemiologists have assessed that infection rate in China is more like ten times what they are saying. But everyone must stay calm....
The reason it's not worse in Australia is because many of the people here are students and young, and their families are staying out of the way of testing facilities and quarantining at home. I'm just saying they have different pressures because they have an authoritarian government. That's reality not racism.
It's a joke. It's scary, it's a lot of chaos and a lot of reassuring BS. The Australian government not excelling in social responsibility. It's fixated on the budget and economic effects, sending out conflicting signals with no doubt the Medical officers losing sleep. The Commonwealth one looks like he's aged 10 years in a fortnight trying to ram some sense into them.
That's why people feel the need to take control and get their freaking precious piles of toilet paper. Because we have a crisis of confidence, nobody believes they will be looked after and maybe we will have to self isolate...in the US they're advising people to have 2 weeks worth of supplies for that. Doctors in South Australia cannot test for Covid-19 because they haven't got enough masks. You can see where the trust is being lost and panic is setting in.
It's a bit grim! But a bit funny also. I can see it but I can't help over reacting either. I feel like a sitting duck right now TBH.
But at least MSB might be doing something in the US. Nice one. Hope it happens before I die! Risk management? LOL
