I agree with your logic, but paying what one analyst very kindly called "a full price" for the assets and then hoping for the drilling success to back-fill the valuation comes with its own risks.
I took a little dabble today on this news but I think @volf lays it out quite clearly - whilst anybody buying/owning KAR should be aware of their acquisitive plans, it's not a license to buy something at any price, so you can tick off your performance goal with its 20% weighting.
That said I will be very, very glad if the drilling at WDS/WDE proves me completely wrong about this deal.
