I believe you are referencing rollover relief.
This occurs where a scrip bid is made an succeeds, your cost base is adjusted accordingly and no capital gain realised until you sell that position.
For example you bought SDL 6 months ago and suppose an ASX listed miner made a successful scrip bid for SDL you could sell those shares 6 months later and be eligible for the 50% discount.
