Divorce takes time, easy to end up homeless fleeing DV long before a settlement. Often the types that beat women also have gambling & drug/alcohol problems so there is nothing to squeeze from a divorce anyway.
There is a definite increase in homelesses post covid as rents have risen. Most seem to be 40-50+ years of age from what I've witnessed. In the inner city a lot of the older hostels are closing and being redeveloped as the real estate is just too valuable. In the outer suburbs people are being squeezed out of cheap units as even there rents are too high for people on unemployement/disability benefits.
A lot of beggers are now setting up around western Sydney in suburbs with strong ethnic populations that still predominantly use cash. Those still begging in the CBD have turned to putting their bank account details or PayID on signs as they knoew most people aren't carrying cash or small change any more.
