My understanding only:
As a trader you can value your BNBG at cost or market. Therefore, as the market value is zero you can effectively claim the loss.
If you still hold BNBG on capital account then you cannot claim the loss until you receive notice from a liquidator that they are worthless. An option would have been to sell them to a body like delisted.com.au prior to year end to crystalise the loss for 2009.
