I worked in mining in Pilbara for 10 yrs with large diggers/dump trucks/dozers so all is relevant to actual cost on size of machines. A large digger holds 14,500 litres fuel and a 793 dump truck holds 4600 litres fuel. A D11 dozer holds much less. So yes fuel costs are large for mining companies -from memory about 1/4 of total $$ outlaid.

The show I was watching was gold rush on foxtel and one of the miners purchased a new cat dozer for 400k,then he said it was going to cost him another 8k a week in diesel to run.
Hearing that 8k figure really blew my mind as I started to think what it must be costing in diesel to run all them machines at lulo.
