I think you already know the answer to this question.

If management was to use a share purchase plan as the vehicle for raising capital then, based on history, most of the major shareholders would not participate in which case it is unlikely that sufficient funds would be raised. As SPP are only open to existing shareholders obtaining new money from new investors would require another round of capital raising.

IMO any new corporate investor would want a significant share of the company at a discount or with significant freebies and, because we need the money, existing shareholders may just have to put up with whatever terms are imposed on us.

Again, it is hard to pass judgement until we know the details and so we should not get too carried away with all the speculation, interesting though it may be.
