I agree - private placement , but with a SPP for retail investors so they don't get too peeved about the insto discount, as done by WBC and CBA. I only see capital raising if they go ahead and need it. At this stage, not clear what the $1.8b buys - if it was to buy $1.8b of housing loans, no capital raising would be needed, ANZ will use debt. So depends on amount of assets and particularly goodwill which the regulator requires $ for $ capital.
BTW - when do you stop becoming a practising accountant and become a real one?
