From their announcement they're only looking at bringing the debt down to below 700m. They are obviously confident that debt at that level is serviceable. So if they raise just half their market cap that would be enough to achieve the goal of bringing down the debt to below 700m.

What new equity holders? If they do rigths issue only existing holders are entitled to the new issues. And I hope they do rights issue because those who don't hold and those who shorted should not be allowed to buy the new issues at this basement bargain price.

If they offer it to anyone and everyone why wouldn't new equity holders put their money in this top company? The downturn affected everybody not just BLY. Where else would people put their money? GM? Chrysler? Citi? BoA? The upturn will come and BLY will rise with the tide.
