Cheers Marzipan9. In reducing labour costs, assuming the market isn't a monopoly etc (regulation needed), then the product itself becomes less expensive to produce and so its cost to the consumer is reduced, partially offsetting the declining income of that industries workforce.
Then there are new industries that arise, based on the same reason that an existing industry can further be refined or mechanised, by the introduction of new ideas and processes. These new industries could then offset any employment reduction of the existing, so the sum total is similar.
See it as a continual refinement, sometimes sudden though.
