Homelessness means that society is unable to provide for some citizens. Why isn't there more cheap, basic, public housing?
Mortgage stress is due in part to the rise and fall conditions created by the (manipulated) system. Runaway house prices due to record low interest rates over a prolonged period, too many investors enjoying negative gearing, interest only loans and other poor lending practices by banks, illegal foreign investment etc. This has caused people make the terrible decision to pay 800k for a weatherboard or feel they will miss out completely. Now investors are being scared off by Labors proposed negative gearing laws, banks are finally providing duty of care and tightening lending practices, and foreign investment has been cracked down upon. The only thing holding this shaky system up is the low interest rates as the government fears raising them will affect the building industry too greatly and cause a real housing price crash. This housing bubble been manufactured and now won't be fixed until it bubble bursts as the stupid government avoids raising rates and the blame for the economy retreating.
Then you have low wage growth, rising energy bills and out of control cost of living expenses.
As for joblessness, where are the bountiful, good paying, fulltime jobs? I challenge you to back that up. Nobody is going to uproot their lives and leave their home and extended family for casual/ seasonal work.
