It's certainly become more fractured in recent times. The wealth gap has been a major contributor and the widening of. The media highlighting when pollies become corrupt was rarely an issue in decades past. Religion, same thing. Now it only takes something like the Voice to see the division explode. Makes me wonder how the referendum from 1967 to allow the Vote for Aboriginal people and to enable Govt to make special Laws for Aboriginal people and change the constitution to suit. That result had over 90% approval by non Indigenous Australians. Our social fabric it seems since then has been rotted around the edges somewhat, and I very much doubt that 1967 vote would get across the line the same way today.
A lot of that I think can be attributed to the wealth divide and the disillusionment and bitterness of large sections of the community.
Luckily the younger generation I think will create a far better society.
