Beware of Europcar.
my daughter and son in law hired a car from the Brisbane airport. When returning it to coolangatta airport 7 days later they received an email 3 hours after, saying there was damage of 3 2mil stone chips on the front of the car and they were being sent onto claims and at risk of being charged $4730 for excess for the damage.
They knew the damage wasn't done while they had it but didn't take any photos when they took the car so didn't have any proof. Son in law wasn't made to look over the car or given a photo of any damage circled. was made to sign in 2 spots but wasn't told what he was signing.
Daughter posted on Europcar facebook page about how unhappy they were about the situation, also with a photo of the chips that Europcar had sent but she had zoomed in on and could see rust in one. Had threatened to call onbudsman and had been in touch with consumer affairs.
Today they received an email saying Eurpocar had looked into and had looked at the picture they had sent through and decided as a "gesture of goodwill" they would drop the claim.
Make sure you take photos everytime when hiring a car and make sure you are aware you are signing to say there is no damage even if you aren't being shown the car before hand.
