IMO the big issue with EVs is how Comm & State Governments are going to apportion tax on them to compensate for the fuel excise & GST on Petrol & diesel in order to maintain/build transport infrastructure.
For example the average vehicle in Aus travels 50,000 Ks P/A (including Commercial vehicles) and consumes on average 7,500 litres of fuel (guesstimate because the average car consumes 7 litres/100 ks & the average truck 40 litres/100Ks)
On 7,500 , litres of fuel the Government on average collects $4875 AUD
IMO the Government will have to levy a per klm rate on all vehicles in the various categories representative to their wear & utilisation of road infrastructure with penalties for ICE to compensate for imbalance of national payments caused by import fuel.
Of course, the extra capital costs of EVs will also have to be compensated for because they too will impact negatively on our trade deficits
Could our cars be monitored /paid for like our current city electric scooters.?
