    lol...my sole contribution to the diesel/petrol debate is never stand at the stern of a diesel boat with a hang over

    ...or a two stroke outboard powered boat on idle...

    There are some very interesting comments, fact is everybody drives differently, and most would argue they are a very good driver.

    A diesel vehicle requires a different approach to a petrol vehicle...a diesel will give a better mpg than a petrol generally.

    I reckon cruise control cannot be beat when it comes to maintaining a constant speed on flat terrain, but will kill the economy if the terrain is hilly.
    There is no doubt at all you will get a better mpg if you "drive" the car...many people don't know how to do that.

    I agree with hanrahan, I too have driven millions of k's, traveled Perth - Brisbane - Perth many many times, as well as all over the country side in every state.
    The right foot will dictate mpg every time...
