CCUS is relied upon in the majority of NDC commitments. it simply needs to work for the world to get to net zero in coupling with direct air capture.

even if all fossil fuel use stopped tomorrow there is still a significant amount of residual emissions from other industries that need to be mitigated to get to net zero (and probably carbon negative).

trees, soil, coastal ecosystems, etc. are an essential part of the solution but can't be solely relied upon, especially with volatile weather.

the primary benefit of CCS is using CO2 in a gaseous state. stored between particles of sand and rock it doesn't take up additional space.

it undoubtedly has a rocky past however every failure has been learned from, the same way any technology was invented and refined.
