Below is a simplification of how Hydrogen is made and then Ammonia. Looks like all the money invested in the Coal route has been wasted.
Sounds like the route now is natural gas, and no longer producing Hydrogen as the end product but Ammonia.
I'd not be wanting to get a Gas SMR project funded. Fossil fuels for Hydrogen are on the nose. IMO the medium term will see high gas prices, as a supply side crunch is mandated to promote green energy.
These guys have invested in turning left of the flowchart, instead of right. There are plenty of ways you can make Hydrogen by not using fossil fuels or electrolysis.
