You can buy carbon credits as an offset to emissions. If a Qantas customer wants to offset flight emissions, Qantas provides that option. They either plant a few trees for example, or buy credits from someone else who has. In the case you are discussing, it would be through CCS. It's a free market facilitated by government. Different to a mandatory price on carbon. A small but growing market in Oz as more and more companies commit to a smaller footprint. I think that's more or less how it works anyway. Haven't looked at it for a while, but Hazer or Water Corp would get saleable credits for the current project.
