Switzerland's emissions are 5.62 tonnes of Co2 per person per year

Switzerland is a progressive modern country like their neighbours. They have cars, oil heating, all appliances we have, they travel and they have a fair amount of tourism, i.e. hotels with heating, appliances etc. They also have light industry, but very specialised, not much heavy industry.

World-wide amongst the highest polluters are:

Quatar with 58.01 t is the biggest polluter
United Arab Emirates at 29.91 - (probably oil production)
then a number of Middle-Eastern countries

Luxenbourg for some reason emits more than 22 tonnes
    U.S.A. 19.1
    Australia 18.75
    Canada 17.37
Germany (which is also still quite industrialised) 9.71
    Italy 7.38
France 5.81 (their electricity comes mostly from U)
    U.K 8.6
    Japan 9.68

The Europeans pollute much less than USA, Canada and Australia - the reason - probably - being their different lifestyle - smaller, denser housing, more use of public transport.

Even though, by reason of our small population numbers, total pollution out of Australia isn't so great, the per capita figure should concern us and we can do a lot individually to reduce that, apart from a tax regime.

    Cheers
