It has been Labor policy from well before Gillard to place a price on carbon. Yes I agree she should never have ruled out a carbon tax, that was a ridiculously dumb thing to do. She has since had to negotiate with the Greens and we have ended up with a proposal for a fixed price ETS (or 'carbon tax') which in 3 to 5 years will morph into a market price ETS. Maybe they should have used the term ETS rather than carbon tax, but at the end of the day WE NEED A PRICE ON CARBON. What is the big deal? All this noise about a big new tax is just ruining the efforts to do what needs to be done.
P.S. If it was a "tax" then why aren't the proceeds going to the government? Why do they even use the term "tax"? How about carbon levy?
