Its happening exactly as Garnaut was saying 2 years ago...
"ONE of the nation's biggest electricity producers says Queensland's burgeoning $50 billion coal-seam gas export industry will probably slow the move away from coal-fired power by causing a jump in east coast gas prices.
Delta Electricity boss Greg Everett, whose company is the biggest supplier of power to the National Electricity Market, says coal-fired baseload power will remain cheaper than gas-fired under the Gillard government's fixed carbon tax if domestic prices rise as forecast.
Analysts and producers such as Santos expect the big Gladstone liquefied natural gas plants to more than double the east coast's cheap domestic gas prices by opening the market to the more lucrative export markets.
This is because domestic gas buyers, who have enjoyed cheap prices because of the closed east coast market, will now have to pay the same price as Asian buyers for gas in Queensland, South Australia, NSW and Victoria, which are all linked by pipelines."
