A lot of the people that I know who are struggling are in that position because they don't want to do more than they have to. Someone very close to me is in a mountain of debt and he is struggling to meet the repayments (often missing them). No matter how much advice I try to give him, he said he doesn't want to work more than 38 hours a week. He doesn't want to stop using a credit card.
This is not an exception to the rule, there are many australians with this mindset, as was demonstrated when half the population voted for the party who promised them that their laziness will not only be serviced, but rewarded.
Australia is breeding a culture of animosity towards the very people who support us. Pathetic.
