Try to visualise this guy with his foundry in an industrial area. The foundry is owned by some small businessmen.
The electricity comes in from the street on wires from the utility.
The carbon tax will make the electricity more expensive.
He doesn't make his own electricity, he buys it. Are you suggesting he puts in a windmill or solar cells, to melt tonnes of steel daily?
This isn't hypothetical. Its simple, gritty reality.
Most of the parts he makes are used in rail cars. If he doesn't make them the asians will using the same technology. All that will happen is production will shift, emmissions the same.
