I am not thinking that it will be up to the consumer but rather the offending company. Again - not a tax specialists, but I would of thought: The company says for example ok - So we omit 10 tonnes of carbon and we have 2 tonnes of offsets so we get charged 8 tonnes. Cardia would form part of the 2 tonnes. Just like a the company using green energy for its production.

The carbon tax at its essence is to change the way industry behaves, despite the Abbott scaremongering. And no I don't vote ALP or Greens.
