Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are significantly impacted by the expression of FTO. The direct relationship between FTO and CDK7 has yet to be established, though there are many examples where alterations in FTO expression influence various CDK expressions. Mechanistically, CDK7 has a specific set of functions, whereas FTO regulates the expression of approximately 10,000 genes that encode proteins crucial for cellular functions. CDK7 inhibitors will never be what FTO inhibitors are simply because FTO controls cellular function via proteins like CDK7. Simply put, FTO inhibitors indirectly modulate CDK7 expression. They are much higher on the biological food chain.

For example, 4 CDK's positive correlation with overexpression of LINC01134, which has a positive correlation with FTO. Knockout FTO and you influence the 4 CDKs through LINC01134.

Here is a simple example of FTO knockdown decreasing the expression of CDK6.
