You know a little, but not enough. Canada is a good example - it just is. California is fast reaching hispanic critical mass with hispanic politicians and bilingual signage - anyone can read some WASP diatribe about Spanish language courses leaving hispanics incapable in English but the US is full of misinformation based on "facts". The truth is anglos without any Spanish are being disadvantaged, not the other way around.

Malaysia has had a policy of affirmative action in respect of malays - the "bumiputra" or literally sons of the earth. They are the ethnic majority but have the lowest standard of living. Chinese, Indians and Malays all work together, go out together and inter-marry but they have separate community identities and the govt does not try to force a melting pot.

These are all good examples of multiculturalism that defuses the xenophobia that separate "pure" ethnic enclaves create.
