Too much garbage being mentiond in this thread. The pretrial conference is the initial appearance before the courts. Usually a timetable is agreed between the parties in order to proceed with the case to an eventual trial. The parties advise the magistrate which issues r in dispute and whihc that arent. each parties lawyers would see some valid aspect to each's case that would warrant it proceeding through the judicial system. Should the parties be directd to a settlement conference or mediation that is wen a deal wuld be done and if successful the hearing vacated. usually once the pretrial confernece is done and the parties hav issued their subpoenae and all the evidence has been tenderd to each party is wen a deal would be done. in my uneducated opinion of course. This is many months away.
