it would be unconstitutional to go "cashless" in my view (and the view of many others); Chapter V of the Australian Constitution, 115. States not to coin money - "A State shall not coin money, nor make anything but gold and silver coin a legal tender in payment of debts." once you establish that cash, banknotes and coins, are proxies for gold and silver, which they are, it is not possible for any government to ban cash. yes you will no doubt need a High Court ruling...btw a number of people have used this section and do not pay road tolls...believe it or not
