Hi Wayne,
The April 10 announcement indicated that 'strategic opportunities with companies with synergistic technology' are also being viewed in terms of strategic options. In one of your earlier posts you asked the question: what is meant by the use of strategic options?
So far we've brainstormed on a few interpretations and possibilities.
You also wrote:
It would appear that Intrexon could have the capability to be a prospective partner in the development of Phylogica's synthetic libraries.
Most definitely! I've been looking back over Intrexon's past collaborations and there have been quite a few partnerships formed over the past few years and all up Phylogica's alley.
Re your point 3 - great choices btw! I think we can add Intrexon to that mix. We cannnot discount a merger as a possibility, however, I'm leaning more towards a strategic alliance, where a company such as Intrexon or some of the others we've mentioned, take a large stake in the company. They certainly are cashed up & would be a great fit.
Here's the question that's been running through my mind though... If Phylogica were to go down this path, their goal of a take over may temporarily be put on hold. Not only that, they'd also have a real opportunity to take their leads all the way through.
I've also been giving your post re Phylogica's heading change on their announcements some further thought.
As you highlighted, the change was from Beyond Antibodies to Breakthrough Peptide Therapeutics
Here's what it highlights for me:
1. It highlights Phylogica's core competence of discovering peptides against intractable targets.
2. And it particularly highlights intracellular protein-protein interactions.
I believe you could be right. There's a very strong possibility that Phylogica did indeed make the change following the approaches they received. The question is what strategic options are being considered? A merger and acquisition, strategic alliance or something else?
I believe there are some exciting opportunities brewing.
Regards,
Tony
