0318 GMT [Dow Jones] Global nickel demand to rebound in 2008, grow 8-9% on-year after
high nickel prices forced worldwide consumption to drop 6.4% in 2007, says UBS. Expects
demand to come from more strength in stainless steel markets, applications using nickel
alloys, plating. Still, rebound in consumption unlikely to drive prices anywhere near to
last year's peak above $50,000/ton; "given (the) abundant nickel supply from
primary producers, stainless steel scrap and pig-iron, nickel prices should be lower on
average this year compared to last year, which should help to underpin demand." LME
3-month nickel down $100 on PM kerb at $27,900.(MWL)
