    I would hazard a bet that a government, if it were so stupid - as to ban cash

    will find out to it's distaste - that it will lose control of currency

    I'd bet that people will use a currency - they will invent their own.

    there's many examples of currency being invented by people who have needs for trading things

    I worked in one area where cigarettes were the currency. No cash required.

    Transferred/representative value currency is not as old as barter - but, it's very old. I would doubt if a society would just capitulate thousands of years of culture away - just like that.

    governments are really playing with fire here if they think they are going to ban cash - for the purpose of control. Control of money laundering or whatever they think they are trying to do.

    People will find ways around it.

    the problem of things like money laundering and tax avoidance etc. -------- would be nothing in comparison to the total disruption in society if cards and phone taps go down because of network loss
