The ALP has a predisposition to attempt to silence its critics. They are totally incapable of winning the argument so we see them resort to totalitarian tactics eg

    1. Roxon's attempt to crimp freedom of speech on the internet

    2. Gillards attempts to silence Abbott with misogyny strategy

3.Conroys current attempts to curb freedom of the press

    4. Numerous threats to hold a royal commission into activities of News Ltd

Newspapers can write whatever they want within the laws of libel/slander. They do not have to even attempt to be fair and balanced if they don't want to. They can and do campaign for or against issues and political parties if they want to. This is what freedom of the press means.

As Turnbull pointed out, the ABC, on the other hand, MUST be scrupulously fair and balanced. Its in their charter. They're taxpayer funded. They have CLEARLY and TOTALLY FAILED in this area especially with regards to long term current affairs hosts O'Brien, Sales and Cassidy.

The ABC is not there to represent the interests of the 30% of Australians who still vote ALP. When will they get this?
