Sitting here a while ago just looking at the grape vine outside when my attention was diverted to the cat door where a snake had poked its head up to look inside and figure out if it could get entry.
I watched it slither away then got up and looked to see where it had gone, which was between a row of pots and a low hedge.
I saw that it was black but I didn't/couldn't see if it was a red belly. Hope it was.
Various critters learn to use cat or doggie doors, probably the most common are blue tongues and skinks. I've seen very fat blue tongues come in but never a snake thank God...so far.
