The Catelonians have a language and culture older much older than Spain. They are a sucessful people if you look at their banking and corporate sector as well as the arts and they are net contributors to the Spanish state. In effect propping up Spain through their talents. Draining their income and capital creation. They have been forced to remain part of something they do not wish to be part of.
No one should be forced to be part of anything unless it carries the will if of the people. Countries and states work where the people agree with the political set ups. If over the decades of centuries that will of the people changes they should be able to express that and create a life they choose to live collectively and under whatever political leadership they so chose.
Being forced and beaten to remain part of something isn't a great advert for democracy and that regime.
A king rules with the love of the people best not by an iron rod.
