I have always had great trouble with using GDP as any sort of measure of what a country is achieving
GDP include all sorts of things that have no connection to the growth of the country and in Australia's case there is very little in the way of productive activity included in the GDP figures, in actual fact to be truthful IMHO it should show a negative figure
