Fact 1. We live in a democracy. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion. Blanchett, Caton, Fraser, Hewson and the 140 people who signed the ad in yesterday's paper. And everyone else.

Fact 2. The Gillard/Brown government have yet told Australians what the carbon tax is going to be. So we don't know what Blanchett and co are asking us to agree to.

Fact 3. Everyone agrees, I believe, that the carbon tax will have an effect on jobs. That is why compensation is being mooted.

Fact 4. Gillard/Brown say that the tax will diminish carbon pollution. By how much we don't know or what effect it will have on the world's climate.

Fact 5. Several G8 countries have just said they will not resign to the Kyoto agreement.
