    hi,

there is quite an amout of misinformation in this posting.

    - the ethanol produced this year is roughly in line with the extra amount of corn produced. so, the high prices must also have other reasons, such as increasing energy costs or bad harvests in australia, ukraine etc., exponentially growing world population.

    - mexican tortilla has nothing to with us corn production. actually the type of corn used for tortilla is not grown in the us or used for ethanol.

    - the majority of ethanol is produced with energy gain, especially the sugar cane contribution.

    - even without energy gain, production makes sense as there is a shortage of liquid fuel for mass transportation as long as the electric car or fuel cell are not available. liquidisation of coal also has poor efficiency. currently there is no alternative available and also no quick solution possible.

    - the 2.nd generation of biofuels will start this year working also with cellulosis. for example, the corn can then be used for food and the rest of the plant for ethanol production. this means additional fuel and food for the planet.
without 1.generation biofuel, there will be no 2.nd generation.

    - the ethanol production is a good policy and in the interest of the united states. it makes them less dependant on foreign oil imports, produces jobs, and increasing prices help to reduce their trade account deficit.
