I think colour is only part of it Pinto. Colour can make it easier to recognise difference, but it's the difference itself which is the basis for most racism. A few days ago someone referred to south pacific islanders as "coconuts", which is hardly an endearing term, and can be easily slotted into the racist category, yet skin colour is pale brown.
As for human conditioning yes I agree with that. I think it's a human trait to be cautious of people outside our immediate surroundings. Probably some sort of defence mechanism from the stone age era. We as a species are slowly adapting to many differences but there's still that fear in some, which is probably learnt from upbringing. A young kid running about calling Islanders Coconuts is clearly something taught by their parents. Thats a cycle that needs to be broken, and it is being broken.
