there's a huge difference in something like looking at eg. Jews to gentiles compared to looking at black people and white people
Recent media controversy about whoopie comments about the holocaust is a classic example of picking a definition to suit ur aims.
From an American perspective I can see how she came to that conclusion; basically she stated that the holocaust wasn’t race based as claimed by the Jews because both parties are white.
What people may not realise is that from about 1915 and onwards, the Semitic group of people insisted that they be reclassified as being white, due to their appearance - Armenian's were also in this predicament.
Prior to change in legislation these Semitic people were denied the right to be naturalIsed and become US citizens. Therefore these people had less rights then the Black people in the US!
The difference about the Jews is that some claim they are not a race but a tribe…thus giving them three options to pick from…
