No. I buy the stock weeks after dividend declaration. I then look to enter on a terrible day which does happen normally between declaration and when the stock goes ex dividend. Wait for dividend. Hold until it gets to me in profit or break even. Then trade and rinse repeat. The amount of dividend determines whether I buy the stock or not. 22c was pretty juicy. I had bought NHC for 4.81. I still have it. Could’ve sold in the $5+ mark a few days back or a week, can’t remember off top of my head but didn’t. There are reasons. I feel NHC is coming out with better than last quarter production and coal prices so I hold until then and make a decision. Either way my break even is $4.80. This exercise takes around 6 weeks. At the same time I short my own holding. Buy it back cheaper. So even when stock goes down I still make money cos I purchase same amount of shares for lower. I don’t necessarily sell my whole parcel. The difference is banked into bank account by broker. It stays in there as a buffer in case future short sell trades go the opposite way. So in short I buy cum dividend and wait. In my case right now I am up my dividend (this could change if NHC falls off a cliff for whatever reason but their quarter is almost over and it’s been good on many fronts) as well as my shorting and hopefully after quarterly results and assuming thermal coal prices don’t tank it should go up again. I did not trade today. In fact haven’t traded since last week. Did that make any sense?
