Have a look at the off market buyback booklet, you will see a range of tax situations which determine benefits from selling back to CBA at a discount. Really only of value for SMSF in pension mode with no tax payable and benefiting from the return of franking. If you are working and pay tax at marginal rates it is probably best to not participate and benefit from cancellation of shares and better earnings per share that follows.
