I hold more CBA shares now than ever before. I wish I started with this much CBA early in my life but I wasn't born with a silver spoon and had to work my way up to the current 19,500 holding. Most of it are from treating CBA like a savings plan, using the dividends to buy (DRP on dips), trading the lows and triggering free carries when the overhead resistance is hit and lastly income from selling CBA options.
A major life event in 2006 forced me to sell a lot of CBA as a deposit for my first house. By 2011 I only owned 1000 CBA units bought mostly during the 2009 GFC lows. I would have owned more but I prioritised paying the mortgage and investment properties. Got married 2013 and by June 2014 I bought my dream family home and again sold a lot of CBA shares to finance it. Although I use CBA as a savings plan and premier free carry trading stock, life gets in the way of accumulating.
But I already know where you are getting at. Because the same numbnuts have made the same point in 2018 (and during the Royal Commission) that you are about to do now.
Post #:33104074 yes I rode the previous $96 peak in 2015 to the now known 2020 low. It is the very definition of buying the dip. But I was never going to lose because most of what is at risk were money from dividends and units from free carry trades. But I'll say what I said in that post. That cornerstone 1000 units bought in 2009 has a ROE of 20% year on year dividends included, probably more now that we have exceeded the 2015 peak
